Western Ethnic

During the 1990s, ethnic style has been one of the strongest influences in fashion. Designers such as Christian Lacroix, Dries van Noten, John Galliano, Kenzo, Vivienne Tam, Yeohlee and many others have taken their inspiration from a variety ofNative American and several other dress forms and aesthetic styles and created colorful, fusing styles from the past of the far away lands. They have also found sources for ethnic fashion within the West, for example in the folk traditions of Northern and Eastern Europe. The fantasy element is strong in ethnic fashion; even when based on detailed research, designs are typically given a turn so they appear contemporary.

These ethnic inspirations are still huge in the fashion industry today. The Native American inspiration comes from the tribal pront. This print is all over clothing in fashion today.
They have tribal print everyting.

Big Cat on the Streets

People like the basics when it comes to clothing. Most, I feel, don’t like to wear loud prints and patterns. They don’t like to feel like an animal; being picked out from the crowd. They don’t want to be the big cat on the streets. They would rather be invisible and going along with the basics. This is for the people who want to stand out and want to be the big cat on the street. The leader of the pack. People don’t wear animal prints that often and when they do the make a statement. With this statement you are destined to become the leader of the pack. Everyone will be inspired by your boldness if you decide to wear an animal-print of any sort.

You can ramp up your basics with a simple printed piece of clothing. For example you can pair a basic black tee and jeans with an animal-printed jacket. Or you can make a statement with your shoes and wear animal-printed flats or heels. OR even wear a printed blouse and some jeans. You can wear a bold printed dress for a night out. There’s also accessories you can add to a basic outfit with some printed jewelry. You can wear and animal-printed scarf or earrings. There’s even hats you can wear with your outfit that are animal-printed. I love animal-print. It’s an easy way to ramp up your basic outfit, make you stand out in the crowd, and make you the big cat on the street and leader of the pack.

Boho Vibe

Want comfort and style in one? Want a piece of clothing that anyone can wear, while enhancing your silhouette? These pair of pants will answer all these questions and put all the answers into one.

At first I didn’t like this trend. I am personally not into bohemian pants at all, but I see people wear them all the time and think, “Those are so cute! I want a pair!” but then I think those will never look good on me. Well I’m wrong according to fashion stylists. These flowy silhouette pants will accentuate your assets to a tee. I soon became to love them and I tried on pair. They are SO COMFY. And oh my! They make you deceive people into making them see you have a tiny waist. That’s what makes these pants so versatile. No matter what body type you are you can wear these pants and it will give the best figure and you will feel so confident in them. They are so comfy as well. Comfort and style is the reason why you NEED these pants in your closet.

They come in all different patterns as well. They are so simple but make a big statement with their tribal or bohemian patterns. So you can wear them with a simple solid colored tee and you’re set. You can also dress up these pants for a casual night out. Just put a piece of statement jewelry on and some wedges and you’re ready to look comfortable and stylish on your night out.

High Top Sneakers

High Top Sneakers are an all-time classic. They came in style in the 20s and they haven't gone out of style since my friends. They are sort of an icon as well. I mean when you think if high-top sneakers you think of the  50s and greasers. Or you think of the movie Footloose and dancing. You wear high-top sneakers to feel cool and to go back in time. At least for me it is. I don't own a pair of high tops, but I want a pair SO BAD. Its a classic shoe that when you wear them it makes you feel on top of the world. Like you got chills and they're multiplying. Sorry I had to reference "Grease" because it goes with sneakers so well.

Converse is a brand that has been here since 1908. They were first made out of rubber and then in 1920 they renamed their canvas sneaker to the "All Star." The name just stuck since then and they are still popular. Although, they made them to make jump shots on the basketball court. But, people eventually started seeing them as something more than just basketball shoes. People started to wear them everywhere; to work and in the streets. People started to wear them as a fashion statement and to express themselves. That's what makes these shoes so popular you can make them you and they become a part of you. You determine their journey and that's what makes them so iconic.

To this day there are designs that are so bold and iconic. I mean now they have a wedge sneaker. So throughout the years peoples own designs and self-expression has created some pretty unique sneakers and has given sneakers their journey. With unique styles and ways to express yourself through these shoes it makes you excited to see whats in the future for the classic high-top sneaker.

Chic Ways to wear tights this Winter

When you think of winter you think everything covered up. Long-sleeve shirts, jackets, pants and boots. In order to keep warm during these colder months you have to layer up. But what if you want to show off you legs, but don't want to freeze your but off. Well I have the answer for you. You can wear tights to still look chic, show off your legs, and still be warm in these colder months of winter.

Here are some ways to look chic this winter:

1. The Classic LBD

A black-and-white mini dress looks especially flattering with black tights and platform heels.
Pair a black dress with tights and some heels
2. Spring blooming through the winter
Winterize pastel hues and a floaty floral dress with a chunky-knit beanie and tights.
You can pair black tights with some pastels and baby-blues. You can winterize these spring colors by wearing a beanie and some tights.

3. Denim with an edge

Elevate a casual denim skirt with a cashmere knit, plus pointelle tights and ankle booties.
This is also a classic. Pairing denim skirts or shorts, with some black tights and some boots. This will elevate your classic denim.

I don't wear tights very much. Personally I don't like them very much; they aren't my style. But I might have to try this out and see how this looks and see if I like this chic look.

Graffiti: From the streets to Clothes

It's a Monday. I didn't want to get out of bed. It was way too cold. My window was opened and my fan was on. I was thinking today was just a "no." No, I didn't want to get out of bed so today was a lazy day for me. I put on basic jeans and a sweatshirt. I put on my shoes which were my Ed Hardy sneakers; all white and "graffiti-ed" out. It has flowers and different abstract designs on them. I went throughout my day and to my last class, which was Calculus. I sat down ten minutes before class waiting quietly. A few more classmates come in and one says, "Whoa! Did you graffiti your shoes yourself?" Sadly no, I didn't because I am not artistic at all. My artistic ability is at like a -1,000,000,000. Then I had an idea of what I should write about today, which is graffiti art. No not the ones on the streets, but the abstract art and creativity that get transferred onto clothes.

Personally I love my Ed Hardy sneakers just because of the abstract art. It has a sense of edge and modern feel. There are artist all around and many of them showcase their talent and their passion through abstract art and their art is displayed on different clothes. You can simply wear a graphic tee with an abstract design to make a statement and pair it with a simple pair of jeans and a sneaker. Or you can have a one-piece clothing statement with an abstract designed dress. This is in for this spring. You can also call it pop art. This trend is very modern. So if you’re into the new way of expressing yourself through modern clothing this is a perfect way for you to do it. Don’t just look at awesome abstract art on a wall. Be brave and edgy and wear it. You’d sure make a statement of artistic creativity.

Dine Back into the 1950s

Let’s travel back to the 1950s and see what it’s like to dress in the way they did. The fashion in this era varied from beginning to end. It wasn’t as extreme as the 1960s but 50s fashion introduced a lot of many new styles that people didn’t ever see during that time.

Beginning in the 1950s people didn’t feel the importance to conform to a certain look anymore. They began to feel a little freedom.

The waistline was the main issue in the 1950s. Some women liked the tight fit while other people liked no waistline. Some people loved the sheath dresses who’s narrow and straightness with pleating gave the illusion of a slimmer waist. You can wear this either for the day or the night.
In the spring when the slim dress until the knees flared into pleats and developed the full flare skirt. In the evenings they swung into heavy pleats from the knees and below that were simpler sheaths. The skirts remained narrow and jackets took a flare too and were taken in at the waist.
Skirts were a big thing in the 1950s. It brought a sense of freedom to the people. They didn’t feel the need to look a certain way anymore. The pleated skirt made people have a slimmer silhouette. And you can pair it with a cute blouse and shoes.

Electric Shade of NEON

The electric shades that hit their peak in the '80s are returning in a much more sophisticated way, now paired with neutral colors such as gray, navy, or camel.

Yes, this trend of neons are in for fall. I know it might seem crazy and a little out there to wear these during a season of warm colors. When you think of fall you thing of warm browns, reds, greens, and oranges. Well throw those away and bring out the neon.

These shades of bright pink, green, yellow, and blue are being paired with nuetral colors to dull down this statement color. The reason why they are paired with neutral colors is to not make these colors clash, like how they did in the 80s. Its bringing the 80s back in a more sophisticated way.

Here are some ways you can wear the ElectricShades of NEON:

  • You can have a solid nuetral shirt and pair it with a neon leather skirt. Amp up your business wear and make your coworkers feel the electricty.
Looking for summer leather? Consider the unusual neon skirts from Proenza Schouler (pictured) or McQ Alexander McQueen. Paired with a simple white tee, they’re an easy way to inject color into your wardrobe—and if you switch out the T-shirt for a heather gray crewneck come September, you can easily carry these cool pieces into your fall wardrobe.
  • You can also wear a neon lip for that pop of color, but not too much.
  • Go for the jewelry. There's a bunch of neon jewlery that are very chic and just unique enough to make a statement.

Wearing neon is the style equivalent of texting in all-caps, so you’ve got to be ready for it. But if you can’t imagine your office dress matching the Staples highlighter aisle, it’s okay: Thanks to accessories mavens like Tom Binns, and Dannijo you can add a pop of neon into your jewelry collection and stick with your everyday LBD uniform, too. (On the Hollywood front, actress Alison Williams recently wore a crisp white shirt with a neon necklace on the red carpet, and looked way more together than her alter-ego Marni.)

  • And lastly, wear a neon colored crossbody bag. It's a simple way to always have that electric shade of neon.

Neon handbags are an easy way to surf the day-glo trend, but once again, contrast is key. A giant neon purse might scream “Malibu Barbie” a little more than you’d intended (and your friends may suspect a small Chihuahua named Tinkerbell lives inside it). Instead, go for the trusty crossbody bag, which has a more compact shape, and gives you the option of bringing the neon strap all the way across your body. (This looks especially cool with chambray denim.) Our favorites:

Tailored Up

In the business world you practically live in a suit. The trousers, collared shirt, and blazer. Or for men it’s a collared shirt, pants, a tie, and a blazer. Everyone has the typical all-black suit. Now it's all about the all-grey suit for fall.

If you're working in a business setting all you wear is the same boring monochromatic suit. If you're in the business world being fashion forward doesn't really tie together. However you can tie this look together and bring fashion into your work place just by wearing chic silhouettes and pairing it with subtle accessories.

Here are some tips to look professionally fashionable:

They say to always wear suits in neutral colors (black, brown, cream, GREY).

Avoid big accessories. Think simple and chic.

All your suits must be tailored and fit close to your body.
All skirts must be right above the knee for the right look.
All blouses should be conservative and always tucked in.

Take all these into consideration and you'll be sure to bring fashion into your work place and make a statement of being professional and fashionable. Who knew those two can be put together, right?

Sweatshirt Revamped

As we slowly start to get into   the colder months, the single layered clothes begin to be put away and the layers come out. You put on a shirt and a sweatshirt and layer up. Today I saw a bunch of people layer up today and put on their sweatshirts. You can wear sweatshirts so many different ways.

The typical way to wear a sweatshirt is to pair it with jeans or wear them with yoga pants or leggings.
There’s more edgy ways now to wear it. You can’t just pair it with jeans for a simple look these days. The bum-around has grown up. Sweatshirts now come in sophisticated silhouettes and different fabrications.

To wear it to the office you can wear it with a leather skirt and be office chic. Or if you’re off duty you can pair it with leather pants and some booties.

You can make it bold, creative, or cozy. This fall it’s an inter-layer and many people are pairing it with fur vest or a cropped leather jacket.

It’s not the simple life for sweatshirts anymore. Style has evolved into something bigger and more complex. You can wear anything with another that you wouldn’t think would work together but it does. That’s what makes style so great. It has become a way to express yourself and not dress like everyone else. That’s why sweatshirts aren’t so simple anymore because you can pair it with practically ANYTHING. Style always has something new to wear.
